The Evel Has Landed

Oh dear, Eve's here and targeting me via Facebook!

I particularly love the line 'Eve is a brand new drink that’s just made for us girls.' Am I supposed to twiddle a piece of hair round my finger, twist my foot, pout and giggle after saying that?!

Money on any advertising of this product including less of a girls' night out and more of a Diet Coke 'ooh we're only here because the barman's hunky' moment?

  1. No way they're going to do that, I'm afraid, as the alleged shallowness of women on a night out had been the chosen sales angle in Switzerland and Germany from the start, and has yielded interesting sales there.

    Sad sight indeed.

  2. The thing that bugs me about "Eve" is that I like the name "Eve" and think it would be a great name for a good beer, and now can no longer be used.

Have you tasted Eve yet, or has it not been released?

  3. Ick, ick, ick...I feel like I need a shower after reading that weblink. Largely because I would never associate with the kind of women who would find that line of advertisting appealing. I'd go nuts first.

  4. Hahaha! Does the word "hunky" exist outside of this sort of ad? I don't think I've ever heard it used in actual conversation.

  5. Oddly enough, I've only gone out with girls who drink pints...

  6. Beer Nut: "hunky" is a swear word in Canada, a disparaging label for men of our large Ukrainian immigrant population.

  7. I'd like to know what the price of it is? If its cheap I shall encourage the missus to try one and save myself a quid.

  8. Interesting point, pricing, indeed I'd be interestedin a little comparison

That thing is quite expensive in Switzerland for what it is.
At major retaileers, it's sold at about CHF 2.20 a 275 ml bottle, that is more or less the price of a 500ml can or bottle of premium, large-brand lager (think Heineken or Carlsberg) off the same shelves.

In bars, you can expect it to be sold at about three times that price on average.

  9. I did indeed screen test until they realised the level of profanity that would need to be edited out!

  10. Oh good lord, I didn't even notice that bit! Even more depressed now!

  11. Depressed ? Time to revive the old suffragette spirit, methinks !
Hmmm, the vision of hordes of foul-mouthed Lancastrian laydeez marching down on Manchester to picket or storm night-clubs selling the Evel stuff... ;o))))

  12. I noticed on Laurent's blog that the German campaign is, unbelievably, even more offensive: "You need: one good female friend, one trendy bar, two Wonderbras, zero money for drinks."

  13. By the standards of German beer marketing, that's close to radical feminism.

And, Melissa, you could do with switching on word verification (a pain and all that it is). The spam bots are swarming.
